The Future Starts Now!

A disappearing city in the deserts of Khandaq? A mysterious anti-terrorist vigilante who is said to be a ghost? A young woman who stands between a dead universe and the land of the living? An assassin from a fictional world? The legacy of a dead superhero, and what it means for Earth's current protectors?

It can only mean one thing: The first Planetary-centric storyline, "The Future Starts Now," is ready to begin, and everyone's invited!

 

There are four streams which will be rolling out as I have time, each of which have plenty of places where a player could jump in for a while.

 

1.) Who Killed Doc Brass? This one is very personal for Elijah, and it's what got him started on his current road. Stay tuned for more ...

 

2.) Tomorrow's Children:  This one is starting in the current Elijah post here. Elijah's search for the current Century Babies has taken him to Dubai, and will soon be leading him all over the world ... Open to anyone as we go, immediate openings for Black Adam, the Marvel Family or the Hawks ...
 

3.) The Search for Dr. Fate:  Beginning soon: The events in the Middle East will reveal that Kent Nelson is ... gone ... and that a new Fate has been chosen. But first, he needs to be found, and the Helm of Nabu needs to be recovered. Of immediate interest to John Constantine and The JSA.

 

4.) To Kill a Superman: Lex Luthor is on the side of the angels these days, but his interest is piqued when research from an uncovered Planetary Guide tells him of a long lost hero of similar powers and origins to Superman, and how he died. Lex also learns of the Century Babies in the course of his research, and makes some decisions in the interest of protecting the world. Of immediate interest to the Superman family and the JLA.

 

So ... who's in?

As far as Amazo goes, I'm just waiting for Lois to respond to his attack before stepping in. Needs to be suitably dramatic after all.

Here's a pertinent question in the sense of our new, laid-back mindset...

...at what point is the polite point to ask someone for a ping? I know there's no one hard and fast answer, but guidelines? A week? Two weeks? Assuming we don't already know there's RL in play...

We're not there yet with the Amazo thread, but it's probably a good question to ask...

Jay Garrick is definitely down for #3. I am up for temping on the others, and I don't know, I figure Blue Beetle is archaeology-adjacent and Damian is the grandson of a pseudo-immortal, either might be involved with stuff for the others!

If we want to go the "Voice of Fate appears to Jay and bids him to reassemble the JSA and find the new Fate" route, set up a post and I'll have Nabu appear to him, talking all cryptic and cosmic.

As for Beetle and Damian, I'm for it. I think what has to happen is they'd need an excuse to be in the Middle East. I could see where either would have motivation. Possibly tracking our mysterious anti-terrorist vigilante? Ted might be investigating the rumors of an ancient city that city that's said to appear and disappear. Perhaps we can tie it to the scarab to motivate him?

Clark'd obviously be involved in any plots to kill him and-actually I need to read a bit of Planetary, I don't want to confuse my issues with the line for how he'd feel about the team. I know he wouldn't be into the Authority because, y'know, the Elite.

Booster, as part time Guardian of Time, probably WOULD have access to a Planetary Guide (though he might have to go on a quest to realize what it does if Rip's not around to translate) and might have a vested interest in the Century Babies ending up in the "right" hands, even time-jaunting them away.

Joker is available to ruin everyone's day by special request as per usual.

Luckily, "Planetary" is a pretty finite run (and one of the best out there, if you ask me ...) and while reading it is best, it's Wiki listing looked pretty comprehensive.

That said, I think there'll be an element of mutual distrust between Clark and Planetary, when he discovers it exists. Planetary will be of the opinion that superheroes are hoarding alien technology that could be saving lives and advancing the human race, among other issues. Also, Planetary intends to pick around heroes' secrets, and that will make everyone uncomfortable.

Ultimately, everyone's on more-or-less the same side, but that doesn't mean they'll get along ...

Also, a Planetary Guide is just a book, privately published annually by Elijah since the early part of the 20th century, detailing many of the hidden wonders of the world he's uncovered. We don't know yet what's in some of those books: A rocketship landing in Kansas, perhaps? (Note: The guide DEFINITELY has a note of something similar happening in the '30s ... and Lex DEFINTIELY has a copy of that one ...)

Clark meanwhile would be equally uncool with Planetary's presumption that its organization knows how to best distribute advances-and that the League and similar groups AREN'T using them when that is clearly not the case. They say they're on the side of the angels but sure act like a group that doesn't give a crap about much of anything other than their own idea of utopia, and a lot of supervillain groups start out that way.

He'd have been equally disgusted by the Four (THAT'S what bugged me, Ellis just using Fantastic Four expies as villains.)-would they have any connection to Hank Henshaw, another Reed Richards expie because DC can't help but kick that poor man until supervillains come out.

I think you're totally right about where Clark would object to Planetary. This'll be fun, because it'll be two VERY different ideas of what constitutes being the "good guy" and unlike Lex, Elijah and Planetary are good guys ... albeit maybe not exactly heroes.

Best of all, they can't solve their issues with each other by throwing punches. Oh, yeah. I think this'll be fun.

Hey. Planetary's going to be heading into Khandaq soon to look for their first century Baby (our anti-terrorist vigilante) and the mysterious disappearing city (which are somehow connected.)

As I type it, I imagine he would be more intrigued by rumors of a magically appearing city than anyone, so maybe he's investigating THAT, and comes across Planetary?

Obviously, Black Adam would COMPLETELY overpower them, so any skirmish would have to be brief, but perhaps after he learns of their entering the country, he has to decide whether to aid or impede them? (Or perhaps seize the secrets of the lost city for himself?) Elijah does have knowledge that might be of use ...
